Trips Schedule - Fall 2008

Rock Climbing at Devil’s Lake   


September 26th – 28th 

Kick start the fall semester with a weekend of climbing the rock faces of Devils Lake State Park.  We will have the opportunity to climb some of the most classic routes in Wisconsin along with some of the Lakes Bouldering areas. It will be a fun filled weekend of Climbing, Hiking and Camping. Sign up before it is too late.

Wisconsin River Paddle

    
October 10th – 12th 

Not many realize the beauty of the Lower Wisconsin River.  Come spend a weekend paddling this pristine river.  Falling asleep to the sounds of flowing water on it’s soft sandy beaches.  This is an amazing trip for beginner paddlers as well a very enjoyable trip for experienced ones.

Northshore Rock Climbing

October 17th – 19th

Midwest rock climbers drool over the opportunity to climb the scenic rock lining Lake Superior’s northern shore.  The fall colors will be brilliant and the temperatures just perfect.  This will be an excellent weekend to spend on the rocks and the location is as good as it gets.

Backpacking the Superior Hiking Trail, MN

  
October 24th-26th

Do you want to get away for a weekend?  If so, this trip is for you! Join us as we continue our quest to section hike the entire Superior Hiking Trial. This trail begins just north of Duluth, MN and wanders all the way to the Minnesota-Canada border. On our trip we will embark on another 15 mile section. Don’t be shy, beginners and experienced hikers are welcome on this trip.

11 Point River Paddle and So Ill Climbing

               
November 25th – 30th
Spend break climbing at So Ill with some of the most perfect sandstone in the Midwest. We will be Bouldering and Sport climbing these gnarly cliffs, then paddling the Eleven Point River in Southern Missouri.  The National Wild and Scenic River is a pristine example of the picturesque Ozark hill country in the Mark Twain National Forest located in the southern part of Missouri.  Springs rushing up from the vast underground systems feed the Eleven Point with more than 300 gallons of water a day.  During your paddle among the towering bluffs, rapids and deep clear pools you can explore the river caves which have taken thousands of years to develop.  Come join us on our multiday, multisport adventure.  A great way to spend your Thanksgiving Break!

Clinics Schedule - Fall 2008

Sport Lead Climbing Class


September 16th and November 4th from 7:00 pm

Sport climbing is for those who are ready to try the next level of climbing.  As a participant, you will be leaving the security of a top rope and learning the skills necessary to become a leader.  Topics will include lead belaying, clipping into a quickdraw, climbing techniques, and how to fall safely.  Stout Adventures will provide all of the equipment, but graduates of this class are expected to bring their own rope whenever they want to lead climb at our gym.  Prerequisite - participants must be able to flash a 5.9 of the instructor’s choice.

GPS Clinic 

                      
September 17th from 6:00 pm

Global Positioning Satellites are everywhere in our high tech world.  Come learn the basic skills needed to operate a GPS during your outdoor adventures whether it’s hiking, biking, fishing, hunting or any of the other activities out there.  Topics covered will be finding your way to marked waypoints, mark your own points of interest to find later, use the electronic compasses and following tracks to a destination.  This clinic is open to all who wish to learn the basics of a GPS.

Open Pool Sessions for Boaters


October 1st, November 5th and December 10th from 8-10pm

Due to popular demand, we have opened up the pool the first Wednesday of each month for you to learn and practice boating skills.  Personal boats are welcome as long as they are super clean.  Pick up a pool pass at Stout Adventures and check in with the lifeguards by 8:00pm.  Invite your friends because there must be at least 3 people in attendance for the pool to stay open. Please read the rules before you plan on participating. Thank you.

Full Moon Paddle  

                 
October 14th from 9-11 pm

Come join us in a night paddle on Lake Menomin under a full moon.  Discover what the evening hours have to offer, leave your worries behind as we set out in canoes to enjoy the wildlife and soak in the moon’s rays and the star’s shine.  Experience what some have called “sensual,” “peaceful,” “poetic” and “magical” as we paddle along being guided by the full moon.

Women's Climbing Night


September 24th and November 19th from 7-10pm

On average there are more men in our climbing gym than women, which can be intimidating for some people.  Stout Adventures would like to have a special night dedicated to just the ladies!  We will cover tips and techniques used in climbing, answer any questions, and also have a fun session of climbing without the guys!

Kayak Deep Water Safety


November 4th from 8-10pm   

This hands-on course teaches the fundamentals of kayak safety and rescue, and is required for any Stout Adventures sea kayak trip or sea kayak rental.  Skills covered will be wet exits, paddle float self rescue, t-rescues and more.  These are skills that no paddler should be without, even if you have taken the course before, it is always a good idea to refresh your skills.

Kayak Roll Clinic                


November 11th and 13th from 8-10pm

Kayak Rolling is as old as the sport itself.  Learn how to save time and energy by rolling your kayak to avoid a rescue situation.  These classes are in two parts – the Tuesday class will be a lot of instruction, and the Thursday class will be mostly practice.  The instructors are present to answer questions and help develop that “perfect roll”.  Be sure to bring a swimsuit, towel and your patience.  Goggles and nose-plugs or a face mask are recommended, but not necessary.

American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Certification    

         
November 21st from 6-10pm and November 22nd – 23rd from 9am – 3pm

This 16 hour class is designed to give you solid First Aid skills in a wilderness setting.  This course teaches first aid skills and knowledge for settings in which emergency care is delayed for long periods, or self evacuation is necessary. Includes injury prevention, proper advance preparation, basic and more advanced first aid techniques, short distance transfer and evacuation techniques.

Paddle Building Clinic


December 9th from 7-9 pm

Carving your own canoe paddle is a skill that requires patience, practice and determination.  This clinic will cover how to choose the right wood, design an appropriate blade, discuss specific tools and then how to finish and protect the wood.  We won’t actually carve a paddle in this clinic, but you will leave with the knowledge and motivation to carve your own canoe paddle.
